I'm told the 2015 Sancerre Les Côtes Aux Valets comes from "the best chalky clay plot of the estate," from 29-year-old vines planted south of Sancerre in the village of Vinon. The bouquet is deep, ripe and elegant, discreet in its fruit aromas right now but mineral and fresh, with ripe but coolish fruit with some rubber notes. Intense and powerful on the palate, this is an elegant, rich and well-structured Sancerre with order and elegance but a quite massive character, though it has more freshness and vitality than Les Rouchons from silex soils that probably suffered more from the 2015 drought than the deep clay soils of the Côte aux Valets, which certainly has more freshness and elegance.
